Hi All,
Just a note to say Hi. When I logged in I looked at the Days on Orders tracker and its hard to believe its been 90 days. For the most part it has flown by. I do miss the normal routines of life though. I've come to realize that we take too many things for granted in our everyday routines just because they become routine. I got to tell you one of the things you never think of is silverware. I know I may never want to use a plastic fork or spoon again.
I've been doing well, work is extremly fast paced and non stop, that does help make the time go by. There are times it does drag on, so we have a tendency to get creative. I've always had it the back of my mind this is like the original "MASH" movie. So whats a war without a little golf.
A friend who I work with had a birthday recently and his sister sent a set of golf clubs. So, the both of us being somewhat creative, we took about hour one recent day and hit nine golf balls. we called it the "Desert Classic". Unfortunately we did not shag them due to the proximity of a real minefield off to the right and out of frame. We kept 3 balls and putt them once in a while in the P-Way (hallway for non Navy folk). Of course it would not be interesting without money. When you buy something at the PX the coin change you get back are called Pogs. Just like real money but made of paper so it still holds the value of real money, not much. The point is we found a use for the pogs. The stakes are high, usually a dime for each putt sunk, skins style, best of 18. It breaks up the time.
Other than that not much to report , I do miss home, I'm not going to deny that. Its July and I should have about 50 rounds of golf on my card by now. Cold beer and relaxing in between the 40 hour work weeks on those thing called "days off"
God Speed
Jim
