Back to Ghan

Just a few more pictures from the trip to Qatar to share with you. It was a great experience and a well needed break. The last two days were spent at the pool lounging, soaking up the desert sun and playing water football. I had those beers, played a lot of Sudoku, and generally did nothing but honestly after the day at the beach I was ready to get back to the war.
I met a lot of great people from Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. The stories we shared would blow your minds in what we have seen and done. It made me proud to be serving with a great bunch of people. When I left Afghanistan to go on pass I had my mind set to do some simple things, look at something pretty, drink a beer, swim in the Arabian Gulf, and lastly just relax. I was able to accomplish everything I set out to do and more, but it was time to get back to finish the job. The last picture is just before we took off from Doha, yep on a C130. The trip back wasn’t as long or so it seemed. We flew to Kandarhar and were able to get off the plane for a few minutes and then back to home station, while we were on the ground it sounded like a battle was close, flares in the air and multiple explosions could be heard so we didn’t stay on the ground long but it was a good chance to stretch. When we landed it was just before my regular shift. I went to the hooch, nope not burned down, so I put my things away and went to work. Things had changed quite a bit, took a little while to get caught up and right back into the fight. As you read this if you have been tracking my time I can honestly say I’m a short timer so I bid farewell and hope to see you all soon. I’ll continue to post on the blog to stay in touch so keep checking back. I’ll leave you with a quote I ran across;
The Power of One
It takes more than tanks and guns and planes to win. It takes more than masses of men; it takes more than heroism, more than self sacrifice, more than leadership. Modern war requires trained minds. The days of unthinking masses of manpower are over. Individual intelligence, individual understanding and individual initiative in all ranks will be powerful weapons.

Glad you made it back safe my friend. A little R&R can go a long way I'm sure.

My brother is in Muscat with the oil-fields and it's pretty tame there. Except for the pictures of huge spiders that creep in from time to time.

Take care of yourself. We enjoy your sharing of so many of your pictures - helps us better understand your world, at least a little.

As always, stay safe and I look forward to your kicking my butt in golf (yet again).
