Update from Afghanistan

Just an update to say Hi to everybody. I'm doing good, getting into the grind of little sleep and long work periods. Actually its not too bad. Today we got to decompress a little and watch a movie at shift change. We watched 300, not bad, I would recommend it if you are into the period of the Spartans and ancient Greece.
I'm not sure if I mentioned our shop has a little van we can use for a PX run or post office. The weird thing about this van is when Toyota made it, I think the guy who put the steering wheel in was on something because he put it on the wrong side. Let me tell you that is a weird drive. The other day a guy I work with took me on a tour of the base. We went around the perimeter and looked beyond the guard towers. Basically this was an old Afghan then Russian base. There are alot of ruins and minefields scattered about so the bottom line is Red means Dead so no go there. I guess the ruins go back to French and possibly Italian or Spanish occupation. There were alot of Afghan kids out there with their goats and such. One kid, a boy, probably 10 or 12 started yelling something at us. Not sure if it was friendly or not, he was pushing a cart so there was no wave to go with it. The mountains I have mentioned before, they are pretty and still snow above the treeline.
It has been progressively been getting warmer, probably in the 90's so its alot like home.
So other than that not much new. I'll be in touch another day.

Take Care God Speed

Jim

PS The hair is coming back.

Stay within the perimeter, no telling what tragedy may lay beyond. No reason to tempt the activity mine fields or others who are recruited to harm allied forces.
