My Life over "Here"

Hi all,

Just had a few minutes to write: Life here is good, I stay busy working, I think the shortest day s far I have had is been 13hrs. Basically I work, sleep, and go to the gym. I have enjoyed that part, keeps the blood moving. I eat during work.
Chow here is actually pretty good. I have two chow halls to choose from. One is a regular chow hall type place the other is more barbeque type. A lot of salads, and fruits in both places to chose from. I think with the work schedule, lack of sleep, and actually eating smarter I found the secret to weight loss. Maybe I should write a diet book. All you need to do is go to an active combat zone and Walla! You get the body you hoped for, HA!
Where I am at is in the mountains, more like the western slope only these peaks seem much taller. The climate is like Crested Butte but it has gotten hot on a few occasions. Last night after shift change one of the guys getting ready to leave asked me and another guy to help with a flag ceremony, its where when fly U.S. flag and then later on he’ll present it to someone with a certificate with date and it was flown over Afghanistan. As I was putting up the 2nd flag the sky opened, lightning, thunder, and yes we were next to the tallest metal object in the compound, so need less to say we finished the 3rd flag rather quickly.
I got to tell you a funny story about getting a haircut here. All of the folks that cut hair are Russians. I don’t speak Russian. The gal spoke some broken English. I asked for #1 on the sides and #2 on top, short but no skin. She got it backwards, so a long story short my first haircut in Afghanistan left less hair on my head than what I had in basic training. My only thought as it’ll grow back. Gives a new meaning to wash and go, haven’t needed shampoo in a week. Getting close though, so all you bald guys I apologize for at least one comment I have made, (once).
I am really missing all of you and I can’t wait for the next round of golf, so I hope I still have a swing and can make contact with the ball.
The other cool thing is we are authorized a summer uniform. Cargo shorts, brown t-shirt, and boots. It doesn’t get better than that. I think in July and August that will be the definite uniform of choice in the compound.
My unaccompanied baggage finally made it. I put it on the pallet before leaving Bragg and I beat it by 10 days, so I’m not living out of a backpack anymore. Nice to have clean skivvies again, it was getting rough. Well got to run. I’ll write more later.

God Speed

Jim

Thanks for the update Jim. We all have a clearer picture of what you're doing and appreciate these little diatribes of yours. Keep them coming. And, we're ALL happy about the skivvies. Wanna bet that Steve will have some appropriate commentary on the matter?

Later my friend. Stay safe.

Crested Butte huh? Bet there aren't any girls running around wearing bib overalls, gray wool socks and Birkenstocks! Skivvies?? Back here, int the worls, we guys call those things "underwear". Ladies here call them "thongs". Bet that puts some thoughts into your head. Care package should be catching up with you next week. Bald is beautiful!
Stay safe, clean and healthy
